Our national parks and monuments are under unprecedented attacks from the Trump administration. First, the administration proposed drastic budget cuts for the Department of the Interior, which manages many of our parks, public lands, and resources.

If you’re anything like me, you spent most this long weekend huddled by a fan, inside an air-conditioned movie theater, or in search of ice cream -- trying desperately to find any way to escape this sweltering heat. With almost no success.

California has long been a leader in clean energy, but now we have the opportunity to set a bold, new standard: 100% renewable and carbon-free power.

Meet the vaquita, the world’s most rare marine mammal, found only in the Gulf of California.

From signing executive orders advancing the Dakota Access and Keystone XL pipelines, to appointing a climate denier to head the EPA, to rolling back protections for our drinking water, Donald Trump’s attacks on our environment are widespread and devastating.

California has a long, proud history of leading the nation and the world in advancing innovative and impactful policies to address climate change and improve air quality. From the landmark Global Warming Solutions Act, to establishing the first in the nation low carbon fuel standards, to raising fuel economy requirements and moving towards 100% renewable power, what happens in California shapes policy at home and across the country. It’s hard to believe, but there’s another election just right around the corner. This is the first open congressional seat in the country since November, and we have a chance to send a true fighter for our values to DC who will stand up to the reality TV star in the White House. There are a lot of great candidates running, but when it comes to the environment the fighter we trust is none other than Jimmy Gomez.
